[1 - 1] look at that
[1 - 3] that is wow
[3 - 4] the pan is clean
[4 - 6] beautiful release not really a beautiful
[6 - 8] toss on my part but well you get tired
[8 - 11] yeah
[14 - 14] an 8-inch non-stick pan looks kind of
[14 - 16] adorable next to a 10 or 12 inch version
[16 - 18] but these petite pans are useful in
[18 - 19] their own right they're great for things
[19 - 22] like one or two fried eggs an omelette
[22 - 23] or recipes that are scaled down for one
[23 - 25] to two people to find the best
[25 - 27] eight-inch non-stick skillet on the
[27 - 29] market we surveyed the options and chose
[29 - 31] eight pans priced from seventeen dollars
[31 - 32] all the way up to a hundred dollars four
[32 - 35] were made from traditional ptfe nonstick
[35 - 37] and four were ceramic nonstick which is
[37 - 39] an alternative coating often marketed as
[39 - 41] green or environmentally friendly now to
[41 - 43] find the absolute best of these we rated
[43 - 46] them in three areas non-stick ability
[46 - 49] durability and ease of use i personally
[49 - 53] spent 66 hours at the stove and cooked
[53 - 56] 700 eggs to find the best pan we're just
[56 - 57] going to show you the highlights today
[57 - 58] though check it out
[62 - 64] [Music] all right so we're here with our first
[64 - 66] all right so we're here with our first non-stick test and we're actually doing
[66 - 68] an industry standard test where we cook
[68 - 70] eggs one minute per side over and over
[70 - 72] again in the pan with no fat at all
[72 - 75] until the eggs start to stick half the
[75 - 77] lineup is traditional non-stick which
[77 - 79] are these in the front plus this one
[79 - 80] over here that we're going to start with
[80 - 82] that is poly
[82 - 86] tetrafluoroethylene
[89 - 89] ptfe it's a plastic polymer coating um
[89 - 91] in the back here we have four ceramic
[91 - 93] pans this is kind of like plastic and
[93 - 95] this is kind of like a glass beach sand
[95 - 97] composite all right this is the oxo see
[97 - 99] if that one comes out
[99 - 105] wow
[107 - 107] wow totally clean so that's our 50th egg
[107 - 110] in this pan we're giving that a pass all
[110 - 112] right so here's the bioletti
[112 - 114] wow look at that looks good
[114 - 117] oh okay that's a mess all right that
[117 - 118] one's gone it left its little brown
[118 - 120] layer on here
[120 - 122] it's it's looking bad
[122 - 124] i had a personal rule of four eggs when
[124 - 126] i was doing this stuck four in a row
[126 - 127] it's out
[127 - 130] oh come on how's it going oh oh
[130 - 131] oh no
[131 - 134] it's like leaving a layer behind and
[134 - 136] coming off yeah this is bad
[136 - 138] total fail it's like sitting at us we're
[138 - 140] going we are just going back time for
[140 - 142] the all clad this pan is induction
[142 - 144] friendly beautiful
[144 - 147] perfect on the pricier end of things but
[147 - 150] a great pan we're on a croissant break
[150 - 151] yeah they're testing chocolate
[151 - 152] croissants in the back and they just
[152 - 154] said you want one of these
[154 - 156] yeah we break for croissants always any
[157 - 159] time after the first round of testing we
[159 - 161] after the first round of testing we started to notice major differences
[161 - 163] between the traditional ptfe pans and
[163 - 165] the ceramic pans and it all came down to
[165 - 167] differences in the composition of their
[167 - 169] coatings the coatings on ceramic pans
[169 - 171] are more brittle than the
[171 - 172] polytetrafluoroethylene on the
[172 - 175] traditional pans and that means they're
[175 - 177] more susceptible to stress during normal
[177 - 179] use they develop microscopic surface
[179 - 181] flaws and the more flawed it becomes the
[181 - 183] more food sticks and then the faster it
[183 - 185] wears down all right so score one for
[185 - 187] the traditional pans let's see if this
[187 - 191] trend continues in round two durability
[194 - 195] [Music] all right so it's time for our
[195 - 198] all right so it's time for our durability testing we do scratch tests
[198 - 200] with metal utensils a thermal shock test
[200 - 202] where we heat up a pan and cool down
[202 - 205] real fast and then a cinder block test
[205 - 207] where we bang the pans on cinder block
[207 - 209] and these are accelerated durability
[209 - 211] tests obviously we know you're not
[211 - 213] banging your pan on a cinder block on
[213 - 215] the regular but this gives us a good
[215 - 217] idea of how these pans will perform over
[217 - 223] time one two three four five
[226 - 226] okay they do not look happy
[226 - 228] i see like some really big scratches
[228 - 231] here so there's material coming off the
[231 - 233] pans you see that
[233 - 235] powder not something you'd want in your
[236 - 238] food oxo scan pan
[238 - 241] oxo scan pan the spatulas why thank you all right 48
[241 - 244] 49 50. these look pretty good yeah
[244 - 246] thermal shock is anytime you're changing
[246 - 247] the temperature really quickly and
[247 - 249] really extremely from very hot to very
[250 - 252] cold it's really bad for metal that's
[252 - 253] how you get warping all right we are
[253 - 263] zeroing in 400. oh oh yeah
[263 - 265] the handle is wobbly over the years i've
[266 - 267] done a lot of this kind of test where
[267 - 269] we've used skillets by whacking them
[269 - 272] against the edge of a concrete block i'm
[272 - 274] handing the reins of the skillet
[274 - 276] whacking test over a lot of ledges that
[276 - 278] are afraid of this lady over here
[278 - 282] okay all right
[282 - 285] all right chipping denting that ceramic surface is
[285 - 286] kind of brittle
[286 - 288] and it looks like it just flew off when
[288 - 293] you hit it scan pen from denmark
[296 - 296] check out that handle okay definitely
[296 - 298] wiggly all right let's try the oxo this
[298 - 301] guy is your traditional non-stick here
[301 - 303] we go
[303 - 305] a little bump there little tiny bump
[305 - 306] there all right so that's pretty good
[306 - 309] yeah unfortunately the ceramic pans
[309 - 310] continued to fall behind in our
[310 - 312] durability rounds throughout this
[312 - 314] testing we saw the ceramic pans were
[314 - 316] much more likely to warp and crack and
[316 - 317] this is due to the brittle nature of
[317 - 320] their coatings the pans that were more
[320 - 322] intact and less dented at the end they
[322 - 324] got the most points let's move on to our
[324 - 326] third and final round ease of use
[329 - 331] [Music] all right so we chose scrambled eggs as
[331 - 332] all right so we chose scrambled eggs as a user test because you really interact
[332 - 334] with the pan a lot lisa here is going to
[334 - 336] demonstrate we've got the oxo pan right
[336 - 339] here traditional non-stick how'd that
[339 - 340] feel to swirl it felt good it's a really
[340 - 342] light pan and feels pretty well balanced
[342 - 344] how does it feel working inside the pan
[344 - 346] really nice really easy the sides are
[346 - 348] low enough that i can like get the
[348 - 349] spatula there
[349 - 351] but they're not so high you know they're
[351 - 353] not like coming in at a weird angle
[353 - 355] copper chef wow this is weird you know
[355 - 357] i'm i just want to move it a little bit
[357 - 359] it's got these like sharp little edges
[359 - 360] like it's like i'm trying to grab the
[360 - 362] business end of a spatula it's not very
[362 - 367] comfortable let's do tifa okay
[369 - 369] oh my gosh
[369 - 371] i just threw some out of the pan
[371 - 373] yeah this one just feels like the sides
[373 - 375] are shallower we're gonna have to check
[375 - 377] our cholesterol after this i know
[377 - 379] this is the all clad right lisa is very
[379 - 381] pro this handle
[381 - 382] i feel like it cuts into my hand a
[382 - 384] little bit it's a little divisive it's a
[384 - 386] little handle heavy which is odd like
[386 - 388] the handle feels like overbuilt for this
[388 - 389] little pan i like the lack of rivets
[389 - 392] that's a good feeling i mean not bad
[392 - 393] non-stick ability aside there were
[393 - 395] certain design factors that made some of
[395 - 397] the pans easier to use than others we
[397 - 399] looked at things like capacity cleanup
[399 - 401] and weight in this round but the thing
[401 - 402] that really made the biggest difference
[402 - 404] to our testers was the comfort of the
[404 - 406] handles some of these had sharp edges
[406 - 408] that really dug into our hands and if it
[408 - 410] had a brushed stainless steel finish or
[410 - 412] a grippy silicone sleeve that was a nice
[412 - 413] bonus after putting these pans to the
[413 - 416] ringer we finally have a winner the oxo
[416 - 418] good grip hard anodized pro non-stick
[418 - 422] eight-inch fry pan priced at 30 bucks it
[422 - 424] bested all the rest for its superior
[424 - 425] non-stick ability super comfortable
[425 - 427] handle and crazy durability it came out
[427 - 429] of testing looking just as good as it
[430 - 432] did going in now keep in mind this pan
[432 - 434] is not induction friendly so if you have
[434 - 436] an induction stove we recommend the all
[436 - 438] clad and if you really want a ceramic
[438 - 440] skillet our top rated ceramic model was
[440 - 442] the scan pan for our full testing and
