[3 - 3] there's a hole in my bucket dear liza do
[3 - 5] you lie this this just gets that in my
[6 - 8] head is that a country song
[8 - 10] is that a country song you never heard that song no there's a
[10 - 13] mozzarella stick in my fry bucket dear
[13 - 14] lisa dear
[14 - 19] lisa there you go
[21 - 21] electric deep fryers promise to take the
[21 - 23] fear out of deep frying supposedly they
[23 - 26] make it easier faster and less messy
[26 - 28] than our preferred method of a dutch
[28 - 30] oven with a clip-on probe thermometer to
[30 - 32] find out which deep fryer was the best
[32 - 34] we tested six models today we're going
[34 - 36] to show you the highlights we rated them
[36 - 38] on performance ease of use and cleanup
[38 - 41] it's friday
[41 - 47] it's actually wednesday but it's friday
[48 - 48] all right we are in the performance
[48 - 50] round we've got our first model here
[50 - 52] from t-fal we are going to fill her up
[52 - 54] with oil got it all plugged in these all
[54 - 55] have lids which is interesting it's one
[56 - 56] thing that
[56 - 58] contains the mess a little bit as you're
[60 - 62] frying there's a little fry basket in here with
[62 - 63] there's a little fry basket in here with a fill line on it that will show us how
[64 - 66] much oil to add
[66 - 68] takes a couple quarts but you gotta get
[68 - 70] that to fry
[70 - 72] and i'm gonna put this lid back on
[72 - 74] little slots there to get the basket
[74 - 75] keep it in place
[76 - 79] power power up let's go
[79 - 80] all right so our t file here is all
[80 - 83] preheated we're going to add some
[83 - 88] mozzarella sticks that are breaded
[89 - 89] okay so it's been about two and a half
[89 - 91] minutes and these mozzarella sticks
[91 - 93] should be done and normally you could
[93 - 95] lift up the basket but we are frying
[95 - 97] backwards for you for science
[97 - 99] and for videos so
[99 - 101] here we go look at that nice and brown
[101 - 103] and crispy looking
[103 - 105] those are good they look great we're
[105 - 107] gonna have to try some for science for
[109 - 111] science oh my goodness
[111 - 114] oh my goodness that looks amazing i know right
[114 - 116] one for you and for me thank you i got i
[116 - 122] won here
[124 - 124] that was delicious it's crunchy it's not
[124 - 126] greasy at all if you put your food into
[126 - 128] a fry later or a dutch oven when the oil
[128 - 130] isn't hot enough it'll soak up a lot of
[130 - 131] grease it'll come out really greasy all
[131 - 133] right so we have the presto here and you
[133 - 134] can't set the temperature it only goes
[134 - 137] to 375 degrees so we are ready to throw
[137 - 139] in some mozzarella sticks here we go
[139 - 142] adding some mozzarella sticks um these
[142 - 145] are supposed to be cooked at 350
[145 - 148] and we got one temperature 375. yes
[148 - 150] it'll be interesting to see if the
[150 - 152] inside is done because they are getting
[152 - 154] pretty brown cheese is a little rubbery
[154 - 157] you see that you don't get that
[157 - 158] beautiful cheese pull you kind of get
[158 - 159] the like
[161 - 163] grandpappy sorry all right we've got the hamilton
[163 - 165] sorry all right we've got the hamilton beach here
[165 - 168] got our temp set we added our oil okay
[168 - 169] all right so we are to put in our
[169 - 171] mozzarella sticks
[171 - 173] this is a very similar model to the tea
[173 - 176] fall in its shape and design the basket
[176 - 178] is smaller and that makes you fry in a
[178 - 179] little more batches so it's a slight
[180 - 182] disadvantage but in general it seems to
[182 - 184] be working great and they're looking
[184 - 186] good i'd say these are done should we
[186 - 188] bust one open let's bust one open
[188 - 191] gorgeous steaming mozzarella is soft and
[192 - 195] gooey outside is crisp nice and brown
[195 - 197] outside is crisp nice and brown so we have the cuisinart deep fryer it's
[197 - 198] all hot and ready to go it's got a nice
[198 - 200] little green light that let us know and
[200 - 201] we're putting them in they look good
[201 - 204] they're sizzling
[204 - 207] very nice yeah these look pretty good
[207 - 209] not too greasy
[209 - 210] all right so performance for the
[210 - 212] cuisinart was really good it was small
[212 - 214] so we did have to add extra batches
[214 - 215] that's our that's our complaint with
[215 - 216] this one all right that's it for
[216 - 220] performance now we're on to ease of use
[220 - 221] all right so we've got the delonghi here
[221 - 223] i'm going to add some oil we're going to
[223 - 225] be making french fries here and looking
[225 - 227] at ease of use so big control panel nice
[228 - 230] and nice super visible are we going 350
[230 - 233] or 375 375
[233 - 236] plus minus i can understand that
[236 - 238] nice and clear what's going on here
[238 - 242] which is really nice max is out at 374.
[242 - 246] one degree come on really
[249 - 249] okay wow awesome
[249 - 250] it's immediately counting up the
[250 - 252] temperature has a red power button
[252 - 255] telling you it's on more information is
[255 - 256] usually a good thing when you're dealing
[256 - 259] with cooking and precision
[259 - 261] hot oil lots of hot oil always good to
[261 - 262] know where you are with that this one
[262 - 264] has a pretty good sized basket
[264 - 266] it actually comes all the way out to the
[266 - 269] walls of the frye you know container all
[269 - 273] right so it's been six minutes
[275 - 275] take this out of the oil here let it
[275 - 277] drain for a minute it's nice and high it
[278 - 279] is nice and high yeah
[280 - 284] basket looks nice and sturdy
[286 - 286] so these have sat for 10 minutes and
[286 - 288] they're going to go back in the oil for
[288 - 290] their final one minute
[290 - 292] crispification that is a technical term
[292 - 294] beautiful i like this basket it's easy
[294 - 297] to handle yeah nice and big all right so
[297 - 300] delonghi ease of use pretty darn good
[300 - 302] on to the next one so we're gonna be
[302 - 304] making some french fries in the dark
[304 - 307] bucket of juice
[307 - 308] the black hole or dark bucket of doom
[308 - 311] also known as the grand pappy by presto
[311 - 312] all right we stir them around a little
[312 - 316] with our plastic spatula the handle of
[316 - 317] that is not very long
[318 - 320] no and it was pretty hot when i was in
[320 - 321] there stirring them around because a lot
[321 - 322] of times when you're frying things you
[322 - 324] don't want to leave them by themselves
[324 - 325] you want to move them around a little
[325 - 327] bit and make sure that there's good
[327 - 329] circulation they're not a big clump so
[329 - 330] yeah i've learned to hold it like a
[330 - 332] pinch on the very end of this little
[332 - 334] spat so as far as ease of use you know
[334 - 336] it's simple you dump the oil in but you
[336 - 338] don't get the bells and whistles that
[338 - 340] some of the other models have the basket
[340 - 342] to drain the food the temperature
[342 - 344] settings temperatures any any control
[344 - 346] dial i'm not sure aside from the little
[346 - 348] plastic lid to cover the oil between
[348 - 350] uses there's anything this has gone
[350 - 352] forward and look how wonky this is is
[352 - 354] that really even a benefit like get that
[354 - 355] out of here
[355 - 357] so this is the t-fal got the oil
[357 - 360] preheated hannah's gonna drop some in
[360 - 362] the control panel right here it's super
[362 - 364] simple a light will tell you if it's on
[364 - 367] temperature settings oil filtration
[367 - 368] that's for when you're done and you want
[368 - 370] to filter the oil on the other side of
[371 - 373] things power switch here and that's it these
[373 - 375] power switch here and that's it these are basically self-regulating pots of
[375 - 377] oil so we can see through our very handy
[377 - 380] window here that the french fries are
[380 - 382] looking awesome beautiful they are
[382 - 384] golden and beautiful so i'm just gonna
[384 - 386] hang them up here on this handy little
[386 - 389] draining rack this handle is comfortable
[389 - 391] it's nice this one's pretty good super
[391 - 393] streamlined all right so we've got the
[393 - 394] breville here we're looking at ease of
[395 - 398] use let's fill it up with oil
[398 - 400] let's fill it up with oil it's nice it tells us it's at 375 it's
[400 - 402] all ready to go
[402 - 404] it's a little finicky to program the
[404 - 406] pre-programmed temperatures were so far
[406 - 408] from temperatures that we actually use
[408 - 411] in our recipes the oil itself the area
[411 - 412] like it's bigger but then we have this
[412 - 414] like small basket in here like there's a
[414 - 416] lot of there's like a inch and a half of
[416 - 418] usable space around here it's just got a
[418 - 420] pretty small basket this one's one of
[420 - 422] the smaller ones we tested it means you
[422 - 424] have to cook in more batches and that
[424 - 425] just elongates the time you're actually
[425 - 427] standing there cooking rather than
[427 - 429] eating all right so overall so so for
[429 - 431] the breville on ease of use let's go on
[431 - 436] to our next round cleaning
[438 - 438] all right so now it's time for our third
[438 - 441] and final round cleanup the most dreaded
[441 - 443] part of deep frying yeah when you get
[443 - 445] the good fried food is the fun part and
[445 - 447] now you gotta pay the piper a couple of
[447 - 449] these machines had features that made
[449 - 451] them easier to clean the t-file over
[451 - 454] here has an oil storage chamber
[454 - 456] underneath one of the biggest pains
[456 - 458] about deep frying is filtering the oil
[458 - 461] to reuse it and storing it between uses
[461 - 463] so this does all of that for you all
[463 - 464] right so we're over here at the sink
[464 - 466] we're gonna break down this t-file and
[466 - 467] clean it up
[467 - 469] even with this one with that great oil
[469 - 471] storage tank there's still a lot of
[471 - 473] parts so i will say one thing about this
[473 - 475] simple design is it's much easier to
[476 - 477] clean than all the other models with a
[477 - 479] million parts if you don't have an oil
[479 - 481] drainage and filtration system built in
[481 - 482] this is what you have to do to figure
[482 - 484] out a place to put the oil funnel it
[484 - 485] take it out we're not even filtering it
[485 - 488] now so it's definitely a lot messier
[488 - 490] it's got the basket the liner the
[490 - 493] housing and the electronics
[493 - 496] so what's that five six it's pretty par
[496 - 498] for the course for these
[498 - 501] all of the electric deep fryers took a
[501 - 502] little more official clean than our
[502 - 503] dutch oven
[504 - 506] but we did find one that was fairly
[506 - 508] simple the grand pappy by presto most of
[508 - 510] the others multiple parts lots of
[510 - 512] cleanup yeah the grandpappy didn't
[512 - 515] perform well otherwise so in general
[515 - 517] deep fryers are hard to clean up after
[518 - 519] so after
[519 - 521] many many rounds of frying we had a
[522 - 525] winner the tfl ultimate easy clean deep fryer
[525 - 527] the tfl ultimate easy clean deep fryer it did a great job it had the same
[527 - 529] capacity as our dutch oven which is
[529 - 531] great it was also really easy to use you
[531 - 533] know you could just set it forget it it
[533 - 534] regulates the temperature for you while
[534 - 536] it wasn't super easy to clean much like
[536 - 538] the rest of the lineup it did have a
[538 - 539] little perk that really set it ahead
[539 - 541] from the pack and that was the fact that
[541 - 543] it will filter the oil for you drain it
[543 - 545] and hold it in its own little chamber
