[9 - 11] is your toaster stuck in the 1950s where
[11 - 14] all bread was white square and skinny we
[14 - 17] recently found out that only 18 of the
[17 - 20] market is white sandwich bread 68 of the
[20 - 23] market are larger hardier more artisan
[23 - 25] lobes it's true bread trends are
[25 - 27] changing when we last tested toasters
[27 - 29] there was only one in the market that
[29 - 31] had a wider slot to accommodate these
[31 - 33] different sized breads and that ended up
[33 - 35] being our winner the magimix over here
[35 - 37] it's a great toaster the downside is it
[37 - 40] costs 250 which is a heck of a lot for a
[40 - 42] toaster well bread lovers should rejoice
[42 - 44] because there's more and more long slot
[44 - 46] toasters on the market we wanted to know
[46 - 48] if any of them could beat our old winner
[48 - 50] so we tested eight priced from 40 bucks
[50 - 53] all the way up to 250 bucks we toasted
[53 - 55] 1500 pieces of bread to get to the
[55 - 57] bottom of this question check out this

[60 - 62] we rated them all on performance speed
[62 - 64] and ease of use here are the highlights

[70 - 72] all right here is the breville all right every slot of every toaster they have
[72 - 74] you know either the quartz rods this one
[74 - 76] has wires there are nickel chromium
[76 - 78] wires and when you see a really cheap
[78 - 80] toaster sometimes there's like you know
[80 - 83] five wires this one has 15 wires on each
[83 - 85] side of each slot that is beautiful
[85 - 87] every one of these four pieces looks
[89 - 90] let's try the darkest setting on the
[91 - 93] magimix that's the highest setting
[93 - 94] that's the highest setting drop the lever
[94 - 96] yeah this is pretty stinky i think the
[96 - 98] fire department's gonna show up it's
[98 - 101] this is too dark yeah that's bad for 250
[101 - 104] bucks we expect perfection the top of it
[104 - 106] is sticking up above the wires so i'm
[106 - 107] kind of worrying that that's not going
[107 - 110] to get any toasting the top of the bagel
[110 - 112] is white we can do better than that this
[112 - 115] has four quartz rods so it's more
[116 - 117] responsive oh there we go
[117 - 120] oh there we go it smells delicious it does smell good
[120 - 122] on this test we tested all eight
[122 - 124] toasters for each one we did the
[124 - 126] lightest setting the darkest setting in
[126 - 128] the medium setting revel in the dash
[128 - 130] probably look the best because you see a
[130 - 132] beautiful range you want the dark to be
[132 - 135] you know pretty dark but not burnt to a
[135 - 136] crisp after the performance round we
[136 - 138] quickly found out not all toasters are
[138 - 140] created equal that's right some of these
[140 - 142] toasters were super inconsistent in
[142 - 144] their brownness or in their evenness
[144 - 146] only a few models really gave us toast
[146 - 148] that was one and done you put it at the
[148 - 150] setting you want you get out beautiful
[150 - 155] evenly cooked toast next up speed
[157 - 157] so this is a timing test here we're
[157 - 158] doing a bunch of slices and averaging
[158 - 161] them but we have one in here right now
[161 - 163] that was just about two minutes
[163 - 166] beautifully brown
[167 - 169] just over one and a half minutes wow so
[169 - 171] that was pretty fast but this is pretty
[171 - 174] pale still fast isn't necessarily better
[174 - 175] it wants to be
[175 - 177] reasonably fast and actually do
[179 - 180] something all right so that was a minute and 25
[180 - 183] all right so that was a minute and 25 seconds so pretty pretty fast yeah looks
[183 - 186] really good too and it's not that even
[186 - 188] yeah that's a little uneven isn't it
[188 - 189] that was over three minutes
[189 - 193] okay three minutes for that not ideal no
[193 - 194] we're going to be docking some points
[194 - 196] there right so we timed the toasters on
[196 - 198] the medium setting to get an average
[198 - 200] rate of toasting speed yeah they took
[200 - 201] anywhere from a minute and a half up to
[201 - 203] three minutes to achieve a golden brown
[203 - 205] piece of toast and our front runners by
[205 - 207] breville and dash each came in at about
[207 - 209] two minutes and most of the faster ones
[209 - 211] that were around one minute they turned
[211 - 212] out pale toast the first time so it's
[212 - 214] not that much faster if you have to put
[214 - 216] the toast in for a second round so let's
[216 - 218] go to our third round ease of use

[223 - 225] all right lisa let's do one of those big beautiful artisan slices of bread look
[225 - 227] at that fits i don't have to do one of
[227 - 228] those deals where you know you do this
[228 - 230] and then you do that that's what i do

[231 - 233] i just love this window i love that you
[233 - 235] can watch it i don't know why but i will
[235 - 237] sit and watch toast brown and be like
[237 - 239] wait for it wait for it wait do you have
[241 - 243] so controls are a little cryptic it's
[243 - 245] big this doesn't have a window and it
[245 - 248] doesn't have a lifting thing that will
[248 - 249] allow you allows you to check the status
[250 - 251] of the toast right the only thing you
[251 - 253] can do is stop it look at it and then
[253 - 256] restart the oscar this is pretty hot
[256 - 258] oh my god yeah yeah
[258 - 260] so that's you know a little bit of a
[260 - 261] safety thing so this one is actually
[261 - 263] called the bit more the breville bit
[263 - 265] more toaster and that is in reference to
[265 - 268] a button on the front over here a bit
[268 - 270] more which is the perfect name for what
[270 - 272] it does it just adds up what a little
[272 - 273] bit at the end of the cycle you know you
[274 - 275] see your toast you're like oh it's
[275 - 277] almost there i wanted a hint darker i
[277 - 278] love that it's actually like how people
[278 - 280] talk yeah i just want a little bit more
[280 - 282] the other thing i like about this one is
[282 - 283] that while it's going this bar of lights
[284 - 285] across the front will flash and start to
[285 - 287] go out so you get a progress bar so
[287 - 290] super simple design which is nice all of
[290 - 293] them have these little slide out drawers
[293 - 295] oh that's nice and tidy
[295 - 297] personally i love that stop button right
[297 - 298] in the middle when it's perfect you can
[298 - 300] just stop it it's like a panic button i
[300 - 302] love that you can see through yeah we
[302 - 306] can let's watch it toast
[308 - 308] we like toasters with intuitive controls
[308 - 310] those are easy to load and unload with
[310 - 312] bread stayed cool on the outside and
[312 - 314] were easy to clean yeah some of these
[314 - 316] toasters really fell short they were not
[316 - 318] easy to figure out we were fussing
[318 - 319] around trying to get the bread out you
[320 - 321] think that making toast would be simple
[321 - 323] but it's not always the case after
[323 - 325] rounds of rigorous testing we have a new
[325 - 327] winner so hannah will you do the honors
[328 - 330] i would the breville bit more toaster
[330 - 332] it's 80 bucks and it was a very worthy
[332 - 335] alternative to our old winner the 250
[335 - 337] dollar magimex yeah the matcha makes
[337 - 340] still a great toaster but sometimes on
[340 - 341] the dark setting it would burn toast and
[341 - 344] at that price we want perfection our
[344 - 346] best buy is by dash and it has all the
[346 - 347] features we love at a really budget
[348 - 350] friendly price of about 40
