Directions

Prepare all ingredients and have them close by. The dish comes together quickly.
Grate the ground beef into a patty, making it slightly wider than the bun to account for shrinking.
Season the patty well with salt and pepper.
Shape the meat into a flat, thick patty with a dimpled shape like a red blood cell, thinner in the center.
Cook the patty on the hot side of the grill, aiming for a medium-rare to rare doneness.
Flip the patty after a few moments, and continue cooking.
Toast the bun slowly over the cooler side of the grill until it is golden brown.
During the last few minutes of cooking, place slices of American cheese on the patty to melt.
Close the lid to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly and the burger to heat evenly.
Use a thermometer to check for doneness; aim for around 125-130°F for rare, 150°F for well done.
Add toppings like mayo, pickles, and onions as desired.
Serve the burger with the toppings, and enjoy your juicy grilled burger.
