Ingredients

2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey Bourbon is generally more mellow and sweet; rye, slightly more spicy and dry.

1 ounce sweet red vermouth Traditionally 1 ounce, but some versions use 1.25 to 1.5 ounces.

1 ounce Campari

ice to taste

Equipment

old-fashioned glass

orange peel or cherry

ice

Directions

In an old-fashioned glass, mix the bourbon or rye whiskey, sweet red vermouth, and Campari.

Add ice to taste.

Optionally, shake with ice, strain, and serve up.

Garnish with an orange peel or cherry, or serve without garnish.
